Jon explores the vibrations of colour and form through the rhythms of anatomy and sound
Working from the philosophy of Kandinsky, the artist plays on internality rather than representation- channeling his emotions and soul into the organic often anatomical shapes, strong colour palettes and feverish curves throughout his pieces. The bold and spontaneous mark making is derived through a deep love and study of artists such as Le Corbusier and Matisse. Inspired by the impressionistic figure paintings of his late grandmother, Jon combines levels of anatomical fluidity with motifs of explosive expressions of music, intertwining with each other in a symphony of colour.
Kandinsky believed music was the pinnacle of abstraction, the closest thing to capturing the expression of the artists soul, and that abstract art is the closest one can get to this. As an avid jazz fan and frequent music creator, the artist plays his songs though his brush and attempts to bring the vibrancy of song and dance to the canvas, a pure expression of joy, love, and passion.
